Pay Per Click Advertising

Pay Per Click (PPC) is a method of advertising where the advertiser only pays when a user clicks on their ad and visits the target website. This form of advertising is most commonly found in search engines, advertising networks, business networks and blogs.

Keyword based PPC involves the display of advertisements on search engine results pages using specialised systems such as Google AdWords or Yahoo! Search Marketing. The PPC system will display the relevant ads based on the keyword phrase entered into the search engine.

A basic search results page has two types of results: the free listings displayed in the main column, and the sponsored listings, which are displayed in the right column or above the free listings. Keyword based PPC results are displayed within the sponsored listings.

Due to competition between advertisers to display their ad for a particular keyword phrase first, most PPC services use a bidding system. Advertisers bid for a particular keyword phrase with the highest bidder having their ad displayed first. The basic principle of PPC advertising remains the same – the advertiser only pays when a user clicks through their ad.

The basic cost of a click-through depends on a number of factors including the bidding price, the demand and also the quality of the keyword phrase.

Unlike organic Search Engine Optimisation, where time is a major factor in improving search engine results, PPC Advertising can display your website on the front page of search engine results almost immediately after a successful bid. This means that your ad can start generating traffic straight away.

Pay Per Click Advertising is very flexible. The PPC campaign tools allow keywords and bids to be adjusted, added and deleted according to the current trends and market.

PPC ad “copy” can be changed at any time, allowing the advertiser to adjust the content to suit short term advertising campaigns or changes in targeted keyword phrases.
