Evernote
If you haven’t discovered Evernote yet you are in for a treat!!!!
Evernote is a program that can be downloaded and installed on your computer and, as the name suggests, you can write notes in it. You can also take screenshots from your Mac or PC and store them in Evernote.
But that’s not all. There’s even a plug-in for your browser so you can copy snippets from websites you visit and store them in Evernote. And Evernote even records the website address for you automatically so you can go revisit the website any time.
Of course, there are also “native” applications for your iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm, Windows Mobile and Google Android phone so you can take notes even when you’re on the move.
I have the iPhone app and one of the best features is that not only can I take notes, but I can record my thoughts and take pictures both of which get stored in Evernote so I can refer back to them later.
Along with whatever you wrote, copied or clipped, you can “tag” your entries to make them easier to find. For example, if I visit an Internet marketing website and “clip” an article, I can then tag it as “marketing” and “internet” as well as being able to edit and annotate it once it’s been saved.
I have also just discovered that you can send stuff to Evernote from Twitter!!!!
So, how could you use Evernote? Well, here are some examples of how I use Evernote:
- When I have a thought about something, I write it in Evernote and tag it so I can easily find it later
- When I have an idea about a new product or service we could develop, I write it in Evernote and tag it so I can easily find it later
- When I’m driving in my car and I have these ideas I pull over and record a voice memo in Evernote (I usually tag this later)
- When I’m sharing good wine with good friends and the wine is sensational, I take a photo and store it in Evernote (I usually have to tag this later, too!!)
- When I’m shopping and I see something that might make a good gift for someone, I take a photo and tag it with the person and the occasion (e.g. birthday, anniversary, etc)
- When I’m surfing the net and see a great article I clip it straight into Evernote and tag it so I can easily find it later.
But it gets better! Evernote runs on both Windows PCs and Macs and phones AND it synchronises them all via your account on their website! So if you get a new PC, just install Evernote, login and wait for it to download all your existing content. It’s that simple!
Oh! Did I mention that the standard offering is free? Zero! Zilch! Nada! Nothing! Absolutely free!
You do have some small ads in the desktop version but you can get rid of them by upgrading to the Premium edition.
